Jane is fasting. Make dua she embraces Islam

24th April 2022

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I’ll be meeting Jane and her mother for iftar today, inshaAllah. Though they are non-Muslims, both have been fasting this Ramadan. Jane is not her real name.

She is a young lady who works in the same place as my friend, Khan. Over the months, she has seen how he behaves with colleagues and family and they have had discussions about Islam. Alhamdulillah, she got more interested and started looking into Islam for herself.

She’s now at the point where she even started fasting this Ramadan and is talking about what life will be like as a Muslim. Her mother has come along as well.

So why invite me for iftar?

The Khan family iftar’s include wonderful meals, but that’s not the only reason I’m going inshaAllah. Khan wanted Jane and her mother to meet another Muslim who can answer the questions he’s already answered.

He says hearing it from another person will be good for strengthening her conviction, inshaAllah. Also, having people who are white, black and Asian at an iftar gathering helps to show how diverse and welcoming our Deen is to a white person like Jane.

Please make dua that Allah guides her and her mother to embrace Islam soon.

Embracing Islam despite the propaganda

Jane is a young but very thoughtful lady. Yes, she has come across the many crazy stories about Muslims that are common today. However, her interaction with Muslims at work and her independent thinking and research has helped her see through the lies.

Unfortunately, most other people will swallow the negative stories which are pumped out daily by governments and media.

Ambassadors of Islam

Our role is to always be ambassadors of Islam seeking opportunities to convey our Deen to those around us. This is every Muslims duty. Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-as (ra) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) saidبلغوا عني ولو آية convey on my behalf, even if it is one verse”.

When non-Muslims see a fellow worker who is kind, truthful, and doesn’t speak about women as mere sexual objects when others around them do, that can spark their curiosity.

When that fellow worker is a kind, confident and unapologetic Muslim who doesn’t shy away from discussing Islam, they then have someone they can question and get answers from.

In a western society with ever changing values, confusion and contradictions, family breakdown and a spiritual void, Islam’s clear rational beliefs, noble values and way of life are a breath of fresh air for those who encounter it.

Even if they don’t become Muslim, they develop a respect for Islam and its way of life.

May Allah (swt) enable us all to be ambassadors of Islam who convey His Deen through our words and deeds. Amen

🧔 What have I been up to?

I spoke at a community iftar event in East London. Wonderful to meet so many brothers. Hearing brothers from India and Afghanistan talk about situation of relatives back home was heart-breaking.

We have the Quran and are over billion but without the Islamic Khilafah state, our ummah suffers everywhere. In these blessed nights of Ramadan and possibly laylatul qadr, make dua for the re-establishment of the Khilafah.

📖 Ayah and Hadith

وَمَا ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

“Victory comes only from Allah. Surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.” [Al-Anfal 8:10]

Quote of the Week

Encouraging us to seek laylatul qadr, Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said : "O you who has wasted the years of his life, there is nothing that will amend those lost and wasted years except for the night of Al-Qadr, for its value is equivalent to that of a lifetime." [Lata’if Al-Ma’arif]

Podcast Turkey’s runaway inflation problem, an episode from Planet Money.

Turkey is facing really high inflation, over 60 percent. Prices keep skyrocketing making life difficult for people.

This episode shows Turkish president Erdogan taking an unorthodox approach to dealing with inflation. Unorthodox in that he is not following the usual liberal capitalist prescriptions of how governments and central banks deal with interest rates. Neither has he abolished interest-based transactions -as Islam commands.

So, he is trying to have his cake and eat it whilst running an interest based economy and all the problems that come with that. The Islamic economic solutions are what are needed in this day and age.
