Denmark Declares War on Muslim Girls

Girl holding banner saying Hands off our jijabs

28th August 2022

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

"You can't come to school with a headscarf. You have to choose between Islam and attending school."

That is where the Danish government wants to go as it tests public reaction to a new proposal. This week, a government commission has proposed a ban on Muslim girls wearing the headscarf in Primary and Secondary schools.

Hijab ban is latest issue

For a long time, various Danish governments have pursued anti-Islamic policies characterised by laws targeting Islamic values and way of life. This is the latest attempt.

More and more Muslim girls born and raised in Denmark are wearing the Islamic headscarf and fulfilling their obligation to their Creator. The headscarf is seen as a strong symbol of holding onto the Islamic identity and a rejection of secular western values that undress and degrade women.

The headscarf expresses noble values such as decency, righteousness and the venerable status of women in Islam. These are strong Islamic values, which the Danish and other Western governments are fighting fiercely.

Forced assimilation is the aim

In the UK, the government has the 'Prevent' programme which makes it a duty on nurses, doctors, teachers and others to report Muslim children to the authorities for signs of 'becoming more Islamic'.

France banned the headscarf in 2004 and keeps introducing new anti-Muslim policies. Now now Denmark is looking at proposals to do the same. These actions are not far from resembling some of the Chinese regime's draconian policy towards Uyghur Muslims.

The message is the same; abandon your Islamic values and embrace secular western values otherwise, we will hound and force you to do so.

These Western politicians have failed to convince Muslim girls and women that Western culture's vulgar view of women and promiscuity is the way to a free and happy life.

Therefore, they resort to prohibition and coercion. Yet, Muslim girls insist on living virtuous lives and being decently dressed, while they increasingly distance themselves from the degrading Western view of women.

Muslim reaction in Denmark

Last Friday (26/08/22), there was a spontaneous demonstration by Muslims sisters in Copenhagen regarding this issue. I also saw reaction from various Muslims showing a strong attempt to challenge this proposed ban. May Allah (swt) strengthen them. The hashtag #ForsvarTørklædet (DefendTheScarf) was being used on social media.

As some Muslims in Denmark eloquently said "We want to make it crystal clear to the Danish government and the public that Muslims will never, ever accept a headscarf ban. We will struggle with everything we have to prevent such a ban from becoming a reality. We will fight for our right to dress as our Creator has commanded us, and for our duty to protect our dear sisters and daughters."

This is a time for Muslims in Denmark to stand together, and work tirelessly to defend this Islamic obligation - that we will never renounce.

Commitment to Islam in tough times

The Prophet (ﷺ) informed us that times will be tough. Anas ibn Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), said, “A time of patience will come to people in which adhering to one’s religion is like grasping a hot coal.” [Tirmidhi]
يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ الصَّابِرُ فِيهِمْ عَلَى دِينِهِ كَالْقَابِضِ عَلَى الْجَمْرِ

So, this is our time, our struggle and our opportunity to show our love and obedience to Allah (swt). May Allah (swt) grant us - and the Muslims in Denmark - steadfastness to continue worshipping Him (swt) till the end- despite the plans of these governments.
